Official supplier of post ride recovery beer for the Spring Classic

It is with great regret that I feel I must make the difficult decision to postpone the myHill Cycling Spring Classic sportive. I need to follow the example of much more experienced organisers (such as the London and Manchester marathons) and not wait for the government to make the decision for me. In addition, I personally feel it would be irresponsible for me to press ahead with an event which could add to the burden of the NHS; something which clearly will be much greater in 3 weeks’ time.

Other organisers are going ahead with their events but with restricted access to the event HQ and having no gathering after the event. Although this may be appropriate for competitive events (particularly time trails where people ride alone), I don’t feel that this is appropriate for the Spring Classic as the social aspect is at the heart of the event.

In terms of what happens next; I will look for a date later in the year once the situation is clearer. If, however, a date this year cannot be identified I will roll your entry over to next year. The very provisional date for this is Sunday 18th April 2021. I have been in contact with the 2 event sponsors - Brampton Brewery and Doug Forrester - and both are committed to supporting the event. They are also supportive of the decision to postpone.

I am sure that you are as disappointed as I am and can only hope you understand that this is the only responsible course of action in this unprecedented event. Just last Thursday I made arrangements for the feed station to be based at the Barley Mow in Wingerworth in order to give a more comfortable stopping point. So, although I have been working on the event as recently as 3 days ago; such is the pace of change of events, I find myself making a complete U-turn.

Finally, can I thank you for entering this year’s event and I hope that this postponement will not discourage you from supporting myHill Cycling in future. I had plans for a really exciting summer event, but this too will be deferred until 2021.

With my sincere good wishes,

Chris Myhill
