About Me

Chris Myhill

My passion is for cycling, and in particular; cycling up hills. I organise cycling events to share that passion with you so that you too can share the thrill and satisfaction of conquering iconic climbs in the Peak District or to experience a fantastic day out on the bike where you will meet new people, ride wonderful, quiet roads and refuel with excellent food and drink!

I have lived on the edge of the Peak District since 1985. I came to the area from Norfolk and I remember the first time I cycled up the Edale valley and being awe struck by the surrounding peaks. I was instantly drawn to the challenge that hill climbing offers and I soon began to compete in races across the country. I am fortunate to have won many national medals in the British hill climb championships over the years, and I am the current over-50 national champion:

  • British national championships: 1988 – 8th place in debut ride, 1991 – 5th, 1993 – 7th, 1994 – 8th, 1995 – 4th, 2001 – 3rd.

  • National student hill climb champion in 1988.

  • Since becoming a veteran rider in 2006 I have been the age group champion in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2018 in the Cycling Time Trials National Championship

  • BMCR National Hill Climb Champion 2019 - 50-54 age group and overall.

  • BMCR National Hill Climb Champion 2020 - 50-54 age group

Although it has been a privilege to have won many titles; nothing surpasses the simple joy of riding a bike and I am as enthusiastic now as I was when I first went out for a group ride in Norfolk back in 1982. Being introduced to road cycling by people with vast experience ensured that I soon learnt how to maximise my enjoyment and performance, and it is my experience that I now offer to you.

About myHill Cycling

I created myHillCycling to get more people out on their bikes so that they too can create wonderful memories. It is something that everyone with a passion for the outdoors needs to experience!
The *sportives I promote are a perfect introduction to the Peak District. I design routes that will take you along the lesser known roads so even if you have ridden for many years in the area, you will always discover something new. My sportives are not timed, so you can concentrate on having a great day and you can enjoy the route, the food and the company of the people that you are with.

The *weekend training camps are designed to get you ready for the summer etapes, those trips you have planned to the famous mountain passes in Europe, or maybe just the springboard you need for achieving your goals. No matter what your reasons you are guaranteed a weekend riding some of the best roads in the UK in the company of likeminded individuals.
If you do want to take your cycling to a competitive level, and you fancy a go at racing, myHillCycling has a membership programme called gatway2RACING which introduces new-comers to cycling time trials. Your membership provides 3rd party insurance and you will get the advice and guidance you need to 'have a go' and dip your toe into the world of cycle racing. Initially this will be focused on the many local hill climbing events which are held on closed roads - so you don't have to worry about other traffic. But once you are confident, and want to do more, there are plenty of other events for you to enter.

For 2021 I am involved in the promotion of four races and all of them will be a great introduction to the sport.

I wish you all happy cycling - but at a safe distance!

*I am uncertain whether these events and activities will take place in 2021. Keep an eye on social media for news.
