Riding in the tyre tracks of legends

Featuring:

upGRADES is an exhilarating challenge that takes in some of the toughest climbs in the Peak District. Inspired by the Matlock Top 10 previously promoted by *Dark White Cycling, upGRADES is on well surfaced roads (unlike the Spring Classic!) and can be ridden on your best summer bike. It is an opportunity to test your hard-earned summer fitness on some of the most feared climbs in the UK.
upGRADES is an homage to the National Hill Climb Championships. The championships are promoted by Cycling Time Trials on the last Sunday in October, and they are held on a different climb every year. Four climbs (including THIS YEARS championship climb!) on the upGRADES route have previously hosted the championships, meaning you will literally be riding in the tyre tracks of hill climbing legends past, present and future!
With this in mind, if you who are riding this years national championships on Bank Road; upGRADES will serve as an excellent training event being just 5 weeks before the championships.
*I have approval from Dark White Cycling for the promotion of upGRADES

The Route

For those who rode in 2024, there are some minor changes for this year:
-
The route through Holloway (both going out and coming back) has been simplified and no longer overlaps.
-
The route through Matlock now takes a quieter route through the back streets, rather then going down to the A6. But don't worry - you still do ALL of Bank Road!
-
Despite the changes, the distance is the same and there is an extra climb. You're welcome!
The 2024 route was tested out by myself and a willing(?!) volunteer.

It was tough but really satisfying!
